What is the process to be part of the Lakeshore All Star Program?
1. Attend a tryout.
2. Be selected from that tryout to attend a Pre-tournament training camp in June. Date TBD
3. Teams will be selected from that camp and will attend the Championships in Columbus July 22-26.
Who evaluates the athletes at the tryout?
-Lakeshore region staff, college coaches and club coaches from Michigan are invited to participate in the process.
How will we know if we made the training camp/team?
-Lakeshore staff will contact each athlete via email, after the last tryout date, and offer a spot in the training camp.
Who are the coaches for the teams?
-Invites and offers are still being sent and accepted. Once the coaching roster is secured we will post it on the website. Each team will have two coaches, head coach and assistant. We will put bios up for them once they are selected.
If athletes are already register for USAV and Lakeshore via their club teams is that good?
-Yes, that is not a problem. If they are selected for a team, Lakeshore staff will pull their membership data into AES to build the All Star rosters for the event.
How does the team travel to the tournament? Are parents required to take them?
-No. The team will travel via either charter bus or 15 passenger vans secured by Lakeshore Region. If parents go to the event and would like to take their athlete back home with them, they just need to get a release from Lakeshore Region staff present at the event and notify their coach.
Is this like a club team or something?
-No this is not a club team and has no affiliation to any club directly. This is a summer all-star program that used to be the USA National HP pipeline. After covid, the USAV Regions took over the event when USAV went to the NTDP model for their pipeline. The event is such an amazing experience, we the regions wanted to keep it alive. This is an opportunity to play with kids from all different clubs under the Lakeshore Region umbrella and represent Michigan.
Do college coaches recruit at this event?
-Yes many do. There are quite a few region staffs made up of college coaches so even though you don't see them in college gear, they are still there coaching at the event.
Are parents responsible for getting their athlete a hotel for the event?
-No, all travel is covered in the team fees and region contributions. Athletes stay together with their teammates in the hotel. Coach supervision is available at all times while traveling with the team. Food is the only thing the athlete is responsible for while on the trip. The coaches and region will get some water and snacks but meals are the responsibility of the athletes.
